For quilters, it is all about the food, fabric, denim jumpers and sensible shoes, according to fabric designers Barbara Groves and Mary Jacobson, of Me and My Sister Designs. The thing I would like to add to the “it’s all about” list is a beverage—a 64 oz. diet. (I, personally, would substitute overalls for the jumper. But, other than that, we pretty much think the same!) The sister team, from Arizona, are just one of the fabulous designers for Moda Fabrics. And I got a chance to hang out with these sisters at their booth at the International Quilt Market last month.
Their booth featured their new fabric line “Cookies from Home” a bright, fun, energetic line of fabric. The line was inspired by a stop at a bakery last spring while on a road trip---food (surprisingly) was their inspiration for this line. “Cookies From Home” (coming out in early 2006) is also a nice compliment to their “Petal Pushers” line, which is now selling in quilt shops. Their booth was so cool in fact, that it won First Place in the “Double Booth” category at Market last month.
Me and My Sister Designs also offer their quilt patterns in a CD format. Each CD has 3 quilt projects, easy to follow instructions for both the beginner and the seasoned quilter, with color diagrams and printable pages.
“I loved making the “Orange Slices” pattern, said Stephanie Goudzwaard, a member of the staff at Cozy Cottage Fabrics in Brea, Ca. “The quilt looks more difficult to make than it really is. It is surprisingly easy and fun using ½ square triangles that you slice up then put back together. The CD format is great, but probably appeals to the quilter who is computer savvy, “ said Stephanie. “I think the CD format for patterns is a great value as well…you get three patterns on each disc for under $15, which is cheaper than buying the three pattern separately”.
Currently, there are 12 different CD pattern collections on the Me and My Sister Designs website. With patterns titled “Quack Me up!” “Frozen Peas”, “Spoonful Of Sugar”, “Buttermints”, and “Pink Lemonade” how could you go wrong. I happen to notice that many of the patterns titles have something to do with food…Imagine that! Oh yeah, there is beverage in there too. Good job girls keep cooking up those wonderful fabric lines and patterns.
