When a family member asked what I wanted for my birthday or Christmas I would ask them to make a “donation” towards my big purchase.
And finally, I bought a Bernina Virtuosa 153 Quilter’s Edition.
I share my great news with you, because, I am currently living in a house full of boys. It is hard for them to get excited about a new sewing machine. Even though I told them to at least pretend to be excited when I unveiled it at a family meeting. There were no “oohs” no “aahs”. My husband was happy because he knew I had wanted a new machine for so long…but pretty much in about 30 seconds…everyone was off doing other things.
I did not get a chance to share all of its wonderful features, show off its decorative stitches, and explain everything that came in the accessory box. But, not to worry, I am thrilled anyway.
I have been faithfully reading my instruction and sewing manual…something I have not ever done for any automobile I have ever bought!
I can’t wait to properly thread my machine with the automatic needle threader and start sewing.
Wish me luck and thanks for listening.
P.S. To give my boys some credit... they did like all the red buttons on the machine!

You will LOVE your Bernina! I bought mine (a 150)about 9 years ago. I've kept up with the maintenance and it runs like the day I got it. Never once has it pooped out on me. Happy sewing!!! (And thank you for the post on the Denyse Schmidt fabrics - I asked my favorite quilt shop to get them when they're available.)

Well, I'm excited for you even if your family isn't! I have a very basic machine and have been thinking of upgrading ... could you tell us what features it has that makes it more quilt-oriented?

Lucky girl! I bought the same machine a few years ago and love, love, love it! I've never liked a machine better. Know you are going to do some fabulous things with it. I share your excitement!!

Sweet new ride... I bet that baby cooks. You'll need to give her/him a name.

Wow! I'm where you were a couple of years ago. I've been sewing on my very basic machine for about 8 years now and would love the chance to upgrade. And yes, I am also in a house full of boys. Please share what fun things your machine does! I'd love to have an idea of what to look for when the time comes!

Gina, I don't know what to say except that if you're excited, then I'm excited. The machine cannot do the artist justice and you are definitely an artist! Good luck to you and your machine, I'm sure you will put many miles on this one too.

I love your site and your new machine sounds great. A Bernina will be my next machine, although I am very happy with my current Pfaff. My daughter was no more interested in sewing than your boys, but turned out to be an excellent knitter. Who knows? Enjoy!!
