The line is being distributed by Free Spirit Fabrics and will be introduced at International Quilt Market in May.
So here is more stuff about the line…there are 4 colorways to the line….Browns, Blues, Lime Greens and warm colors…reds, golds and oranges. There are a total of 34 fabrics. Each colorway is not shown in the photo of the stacked bolts, but all the patterns are represented. There are not any solids, per say, but we are adding a few colorways to the “Freckles” line”, said Denyse.
“The inspiration for this line was taken primarily from my collection of vintage prints found at flea markets, in thrift stores and as deadstock in old fabric stores. The color direction for the line was pulled from my “Drunk Love in a Log Cabin” quilt” (as shown below), she said.
There will be one pattern available on Free Spirit’s website to go with the collection. More are in the works.
“We can’t wait to start using fabrics from “Flea Market Fancy” sparingly in our new Couture patterns, set to debut at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in May 2006”, she said.
“We hope that the line is wildly popular and if so, we plan to continue to release more lines in the future,” said Studio Manager, Richard Killeaney.
Well, from what I can see. It is wildly popular and it is not even out yet. If you don’t believe me check out the comments from the blogs of booga j; angry chicken; red instead; thimble; and dioramaram. And Jessica at Seed Pod recently attended a workshop with Denyse…read about her experiences and see some of her photos with Denyse and a sampling of more fabric.
I also asked Denyse if "Steve the Cat" (a pattern in her book "Denyse Schmidt Quilts" ) will ever have a dog counterpart....nope, she said, since she is a cat owner.
But according to Richard, a quilter out there did make Steve into a bunny --that was really darn cute!
Happy Crafting.

AHHHHH, wonderful fabrics! And since I own a small quiltshop here in Norway, I'll be importing them to Norway... even if Amy B. fabrics was a bit of dissapointment...they don't sell bery well. But maybe these retro-60's-fabrics will... or maybe they are too modern for the norwegian market. But I'll give it a try, because I love them!!

Today was a fabulous day, meeting with my Free Spirit Rep. Much to my surprise, he had samples of "Flea Market Fancy", Denyse's new line. I ordered the ENTIRE collection, both color stories!! They will be perfect for your "Charming Log Cabin" pattern! I expect the fabric to arrive in April.

I am feeling a new quilt with some of these fabrics. Maybe it would be fun to use these patterns and pretend they're solids and do a D.S. pattern, could be cool.
