Starting tomorrow, over 15,000 quilters will converge into the city of Ontario, Ca for one of the largest quilt shows in the nation—the “Road to California, Southern California’s Largest Quilt Show”. The show runs Jan. 19 through Sunday, Jan 22nd.
The “Road to California”—like the well-worn asphalt roads of California-- will be jammed for four days as the aisles of the Ontario Convention Centers will become clogged, “butt to butt”—so to speak, with all sizes, shapes and ages of (mostly) women who enjoy the “sport” of quilting.
I helped set up a vendor booth for Cozy Cottage today and got a chance to walk around for a sneak peek of many of the quilts entered and accepted for the show, as well as most of the over 125 vendors who set up booths with merchandise to sell to quilters.
If you get a chance to attend, look forward to stunning quilts and new, exciting fabrics, patterns and products to buy. If you cannot attend…check out “Road’s” website and at least view the award winning quilts from the last few years. They are truly inspiring quilts.
Walking through the show will take all day…or more. There will be fabric, of course, and quilt kits, and buttons, patterns, redwork embroidery patterns, vintage quilts, and a bunch of different ways to display your quilts. Quilting magazine will seek your subscription at “great rates”.
There will be yarn, floss, thread and a thousand different items to embellish your quilts, sweatshirts, tote bag or scrapbook. Quilt-themed jewelry, t-shirts, scissors bobs, posters, lamps, socks and rolling carts will be on display. (The photo above is of a booth by "Quiltin' Cousins Quilt Shop" from Pismo Beach, CA)
Sewing centers will have 126 different kinds of sewing machines whirling away… and all brands of long arm quilting machines will be available to the quilter to “test-drive”.
“My friends and I take classes every year,” says quilter, Debbie White, who entered a quilt, had it accepted, and is now on display at the show. “And even though we live only about 20 miles away, we always get a hotel room for a couple of nights and make it a fun adventure.”

Teachers from around the world are teaching classes and giving lectures during the four-day event. Some of the faculty includes, Quilt-In-A-Day’s Eleanor Burns, (see photo) who has a booth and is teaching and so is Robin Kingsley, from Bird Brain Designs. Debbie Caffrey is teaching from her “Open A Can Of Worms” publication and Miyako Kobayashi, a quilter from Japan, who has been featured in over 250 magazines, will also be teaching.
It can’t get any better than this.
I will be writing about some of the highlights of the show in my next few posts!

I would like to wish my hubby Hal (and fellow blogger who writes about leadership and outstanding song lyrics) a big ‘ol Happy Birthday.
I Love you.
