Another product that was recently reviewed in the latest issue of Quilters’
Newsletter Magazine was Black & Decker’s Power Scissors. I remember the days of the “electric” scissor many moons ago—we got a chance to play with them back in my junior high home economic class. They were fun to use, but I don’t remember much else about them. So, when I saw this review, I was wondering how today’s version would work for a quilter.
According to the review, you’ll get up to 90 minutes of cutting time before recharging is needed. “We cut eight layers of quilter’s cotton comfortably and cleanly,” so states the article. “The set comes with one blade for straight cuts, such as yardage and batting (as well as cardboard, vinyl and leather). A second blade work best for cutting curves, which will please garment makers and quilters who like to freehand cut their fabrics.”, the article continues.
The Black & Decker website states the power scissors (price range about $30) can cut: corrugate, vinyl, fabric, denim, paper and cardboard.
I would like to test drive this bad boy.

I think, unfortunately, we quilters and sewers would still be faced with the never-ending problem of keeping our “Fabric Only” scissors out of the hands of scissor stealing, paper cutting culprits—with whom many of us live.
If we brought this power scissors tool into our homes…I think they would fall into the “enemy’s” hands pretty fast…but then again…. maybe they would leave our real “Fabric Only” scissors alone.
Ah-ha that has me thinking….

I bought the Black and Decker electric scissors. They're great. I can't wait to use them on a chenille project. So far I've used them only once - to cut a piece of contour bathroom carpeting. I zipped it out in about 10 minutes.

B&D scissors cuts beautifully. It has a table clamp which allows hands free
cutting (both hands on material )
Some improvements that I suggest:
(1)90 minute running time not sufficient.
preferably power line adapter
(2) add foot switch
