There is a new gizmo out, the “Quilter’s FabriCalc”…a hand-held easy-to-use
Have any of you readers used the thing? We would love to hear your review…
I have checked out the 75-page user’s manual (you can read it too!)...and I am convinced it has some great features. The “Quilter’s FabriCalc” was designed by a leading manufacturer of specialty calculators, Calculated Industries. And this product’s target market was us!—all of us 21 million quilter’s out there in the world.
“The Quilter’s FabriCalc was developed primarily for the “traditional” or “patchwork” quilter”, according to Steve Kennedy, President and General Manager of Calculated Industries.
According to Calculated Industries website the calculator can do the following and more:
-Create quilt designs using Block functions with or without Sashing; solves diagonals
-Find total Yardage, including Backing, Binding, Borders and Drop for any quilting project
-Calculate the total yardage for Squares, ½ Square Triangles, ¼ Square Triangles, 45° and 60° Diamonds
- Reverse the calculations: find the number of Squares and Diamonds that can be cut from fabric in your “stash”
-Store fabric yardage solutions for six individual types of fabric and view total yardage required for all material
-Use Preferences settings to select Fractional or Decimal displays, Mitered or Straight Corners and more
-Find total costs for material
The idea behind this calculator was from a staff member, Susie Blades, who is a long-time Calculated Industries staff member, quilt designer and a former quilt-shop owner.
Most shops are selling the Quilters FabriCalc for between $35 and $40.
Tell me what you think about it!

I read the directions - you have to sit and study them. Pretty complicated. Haven't used mine yet and I have had it for five or six months

They finally figured out we don't like to read manuals! Now there is a new video that shows how to use it -- looks pretty simple when she does it! Check on their site at www.fabricalc.com and click on watch product demo button.

It is so complicated that I have returned to my old ways of pad, pencil and fingers and toes. Wish I could get my $$$ back since it was an expensive mistake.
