The Quilts of Gee's Bend to be Featured at Atlanta's High Museum of Art, Starting Saturday, March 25

The High Museum of Art in Atlanta, GA, beginning tomorrow, Saturday, March 25 and going until June 18 will feature the quilts of Gee’s Bend. The exhibition will bring to light the bold and dramatic quilts made by African-American women who live in the isolated hamlet of Gee’s Bend, Alabama.
“The Quilts of Gee’s Bend represent four generations of Alabama women who took fabrics from their every day lives and fashioned them into inspiring displays of artistry,” states the museum’s site.
In addition to the exhibit there will be lectures, “meet the quilters”, quilting bee Saturdays, and many other events. Check out their website for details.
Thanks to Jean Ann Wright, Senior Editor at Quilt Magazine for keeping Quilter’s Buzz updated on the happenings of the Quilts of Gee’s Bend. She also told me about the U.S. Postal service who will be issuing stamps with quilts of Gee’s Bend on them in August. Look for a feature of the Quilts of Gee’s Bend and the museum exhibit in an upcoming issue of Quilt Magazine.
