Many of us avoid the “A” word. And in the world of quilting, at least, the “A” word is

APPLIQUE! There are many different ways to put on an appliqué onto a quilt, but the one that I prefer using in the “Freezer Paper” method.
On Liesl Gibson’s site “
distressed”, she has given us a fabulous tutorial on the “freezer paper” method of appliqué-- complete with great photos, tips and

illustrations. She shows in detail how to sew the “ladder stitch” which is the most effective way to create the “invisible” stitch and attach the appliqué piece to the quilt. Check out her site for the
complete tutorial. It is a definite “save” for your quilting file.
Thanks for the great tutorial Liesl!
Freezer paper (usually used for preparing food for freezing) is a plastic coated-paper that when ironed onto fabric temporarily adheres to it.

It is easy to peel off and is re-useable for several times. Quilt shops usually carry freezer paper and, of course, it is available in most of the larger grocery stores.

my quilting friends laugh when I say, I prefer piecing and not the "A" word. Even now when they want to talk about applique, they say the "A" word instead to me! LOL
I like your instructions about doing "A"...but still haven't convinced me to do all that hand stitching!!!
thanks for a great website though!
Cheers
