Quilt Fabric Designer and Artist, Anna Maria Horner, Tells Us More About Her Lines For Free Spirit Fabrics

The Fabric Journey
With my debut collection of "Bohemian" for Free Spirit Fabrics in May of this year, I felt like I was embarking on the road home again. The line was inspired by my natural tendency to throw prints together unconventionally with a vivacious and saturated palette.
It was truly a momentous occasion for me to handle, cut, and sew with my own collection of fabrics.
I'm coming around the block to a place where I can use everything I know and take part in the creativity of others as well. I feel like I'm the first step in a process that will put blankets on beds, and clothing on backs for years to come. It’s amazingly gratifying.
(Ed. Note: Anna Maria has a great free and downloadable quilt pattern made with “Bohemian”…I personally have been in love with this quilt and have downloaded it and put it in my “do for me” file.)
Chocolate Lollipop Is On the Way...
I am honored to be working with such great people at Free Spirit and even more flattered that they've asked for more. My second line of fabrics, "Chocolate Lollipop", will debut at Quilt Market in May 2007.
And So Are Patterns!
There are many exciting things happening in the studio not the least of which is plans for publishing my own sewing patterns!
I'm so excited about all the opportunity that working in this industry offers. I have such a deep respect for the history and tradition that come with quilting, sewing and just handiwork in general. It's a blessing to take part in enhancing that tradition with a new perspective. I know that I am in good company here and feel right at home.
Thanks, Anna Maria, for taking the time from the design studio, five kids, dog and hubby to “talk” to us. We look forward to sharing a “Chocolate Lollipop” with you soon!
Bonus Material For You Who Have Read to The End Of This Post…
Because of my highly skilled investigative journalist skills, I also discovered that Anna (pro-nounced “Aw-na”) Maria’s official name –is a super long one-- that I doubt would ever fit on the selvage edge of any of her fabric lines…But here it is:
Anna Maria Eleftheria Demacopoulos Horner.
And here is what Anna Maria says about her name: “I think of my name as this extra suitcase that I take around with me, I am certainly proud of it. I am always amused at people's fascination with a long difficult name.”
Warm Regards,
Anna Maria Horner
