Anna Maria and Heather...FreeSpirit Designers Making It Happen In The Quilting World...New Fabrics and Patterns Are On The Way

My new found friends, Anna Maria Horner (mother of five) and Heather Bailey,
(mother of a ten and two year old) are cool and hip artists and quilt fabric designers…And they both made a BIG splash at Quilt Market.
I got to rub shoulders with them a bit and soaked up their enthusiastic excitement for the quilting industry. It was an honor for me (an old mother of 4) to hang out with them and cruise the aisles of Quilt Market last week. I know I talked about Heather and Anna Maria before...but...
These two FreeSpirit Fabric designers are creating fabric that really meets the needs of that “next generation” of quilters. Heather’s line “Freshcut” was selling like hot cakes. Anna Maria’s has her second line coming soon; called “Chocolate Lollipop” (I snuck a quick peek and a photo, but was sworn to secrecy for a few more weeks. It is yummy.)
I think it is so cool that both designers have chosen to work/design and create from their homes. They are able to throw in a load of laundry, snap a few fabulous photos of their creations (If you have seen their blogs, you know what I am talking about—their photos are incredible!), help with homework, cook dinner and find the balance between being professional business women and “mommies” and wives. I am not sure how they do it, but it seems to work. They are happy. They are talented. You can see it and you can feel it.
Don’t worry; I will be keeping close tabs on these ladies.
The adventure has just begun for these two!
Since returning from Market...

Anna Maria has been busy sewing up some incredible jackets for her girls and helped her 14 year old daughter design/make an incredible jumper. These are some of the prototypes for her pattern designs.
Heather is working on her hip patterns as well, which will include the “heavily requested” pear pincushion and other fun home décor and accessories. Heather will also be working on her next line of fabric to debut at Quilt Market in May. next Fall.
(Most photos thanks to Heather and Anna Maria. As shown from top to bottom: Heather and Gina with the quilt Threaded Pear Studio quilted; Anna Maria, Heather and Donna Wilder, Pres. of FreeSpirit; Anna Maria's jacket and daughter's jumper; Heather's goodies on display at her school house lecture.)

Gina, I love your articles & photos. I would love to see an article on Elizabeth Scott of Late Bloomer Quilts who attended quilt market for the first time this year. She has lovely patterns.
