Each year, Mrs. Karin Clark’s third grade students at Mariposa Elementary School (my four kids have all attended the school) in Brea, CA , read the book “The Keeping Quilt” by Patricia Polacco.
And for the past several years, they have invited me to come to the classroom and talk about quilts and why I love them. I do a bit of a show and tell, and they all get to handle the old and new quilts that I bring. They tell me about the book and I tell them about quilting.
The book is about a family from Russia who has a quilt made from old clothes. They made the quilt to help them always remember home.
The quilt is passed down from generation to generation and is used as a baby blanket, part of a wedding ceremony, as a table cloth and more, says Mrs. Clark.
The book was first published over 10 years ago. And a special edition is now available.
“I can't believe that it's been ten years since the original Keeping Quilt was published!
This special edition copy depicts the original story, and also includes some very special moments in my life that have affected me deeply... moments that I have shared with The Keeping Quilt,” says the author Patricia Polacco.
If you are looking for a way to share your love of quilting with a young one, check this book out.
And I hope Mrs. Clark’s students will make some comments on my blog to tell me more about the book.

My Third Grade class would like to thank you so much for sharing your love of quilts with us. It was fun to see how a quilt was made and to see some beautiful and fun quilts from your collection. You made our story, The Keeping Quilt, come alive! Thanks again. Sincerely, Karin Clark
