Making A "Blanket Statement" --See Fabulous Projects Made From A Flea Market Find---A Vintage Wool Blanket

I have been following the postings of Vicki at Turkey Feathers for a bit now…Andblanket%20statement%20trees%20more.jpg she has been working on the most interesting project…called “Blanket Statement”.

She found a $15 vintage wool blanket at a thrift shop and has created the most fabulous projects from this blanket...Twenty to date …

Here is Vicki, a crafty and talented Oregonian, who has agreed to be a guest writer and “show and tell” about “Blanket Statement”.balnket%20statement%20cover-image-100_5520b.jpg

“From the start, crafting has always been part of my life.  At times it was a necessity in order to meet the needs when money was tight.  Other times, it served simply as creative expression.blanket%20statement%20skate%20ornaments.jpg

I've found both can foster inspiration though and in fact, inspiration can come from just about anything, even an old wool blanket!

One of my very favorite things to do is rummage through second-hand shops and flea markets for vintage finds and raw materials.  It's a great way to recycle and save a little money too.

Last year, about this time, I found a cream-colored wool blanket for $15 at a thrift store.  I knew I could find uses for it, even though at the time I didn't have a clear plan in mind.

But once I got it home the ideas began to flow and all kinds of things started to emerge from that blanket.  It was exciting and I thought it would be fun and interesting to document each new piece on my blog "turkey feathers", and added a photo album to showcase it all.  I gave the project a title: Blanket Statement.blanket%20statement%20maryjane1.jpg

So far, I've made over twenty different items (including more wool trees from Little Bird's pattern) using parts of the blanket.  I never have any idea where the blanket will take me next.  It's always a surprise to see what creative path it will lead to.

I work out of my home, in a rural setting surrounded by a natural environment of trees and animals.  And rain!!  I feel so grateful to be here though.  Every day is a gift!

I'm a dedicated wife and mother to four children, two grown and two still in the nest.  They are quite spread out in age, so I've been in active "mothering mode" for over 3o years!  However, in between I've had a number of occupations, from teaching adult education to graphic arts & design.”
