Getting Ready For The Show--Photos From The Road To California Quilt Show

Over 20,000 quilters stormed the halls of the Convention Center in Ontario, Ca., last week to attend one of the biggest quilt shows in the West—the "Road to California".  They came by the car load and bus load (17 buses on Saturday alone!) to see, touch and buy--and to get inspired!

The four-day show was full of quilts, exhibits, vendors, lectures, classes, and white gloved volunteers.

Carolyn Reese, owner of the show, has been hosting this event for about 10 years.   For years, she has relied on a big crew of volunteers to hang quilts and prepare the center for the event.  And each year, the crowds just keep getting bigger! hanging%20the%20quilts.jpg

Gregory Case, a professional photographer, and I attended the show daily and I thought you might be interested is seeing a “photo essay” of the event.  The quilt contest winners are posted on the Road to California website…so you can go there to see some incredible quilts…but what we have to show you is the “flavor” of the show…

For today’s posting, I am calling it “Getting Ready”—which showcases the Volunteers, Vendors, and some Very Important Quilts.  There was lots ofvendors%20prepare.jpghanding%20out%20ribbons.jpg vacuuming, quilt hanging, booth building and quilt judging going on the day before the event opened. volunteers%20unpacking%20trunk.jpg

Gregory will be posting a complete photo essay on his website in the near future.  But for now, here is “taste” of the show—the day before the doors open.

Thank you, Gina. It's good to be reminded of how much work these beautiful shows are and the good volunteers who make them possible. Whose booth is in the first photo? And the show winners are so gorgeous, creative and awe-inspiring....

Hi Gina,

I'm so glad you are sharing your pictures of the Road To California show. I have heard about this show for years and have never had a chance to attend.

The quilts in the first picture in your post today are beautiful. Great, rich colors!

Thanks for taking us along with you!

Thanks for these 'behind the scenes' peeks . I would love to get to America and attend some of the great shows I read about - have to win lotto first though (vbg)

Thanks Gina - lovely quilts and a reminder that to volunteer to help with any quilt show...helps keep this industry going more than you think!

Cool. Wish I could have gone. My dad lives in Ontario. Thanks for sharing. Looks like a good time! :)

Thanks for sharing the pictures! I sure wish I could attend. I am going to the Expo in Puyallup though. I'll try to get pictures for you.
