Old Fashioned Domestic Skills Getting A Hightech Makeover...Sewing Is Back

Handmade is “way cooler” than store bought.  At least that is what I think and so do many of you and even MSNBC says so.

Old fashioned domestic skills are coming back!  Children, generation x-er’s,Old_Sewing-machine.jpg professional women and men are signing up for sewing classes all over the country.  The number of sewers is up by five million in the last five years, according to the report.

  MSNBC

Check out this clip from MSNBC about the new generation of people who want to “make something” with their hands and maybe the help of a sewing machine.

Thanks to Joan Hawley at Lazy Girl Designs for the tip.

Now I just want to drive over to SF to go the stitch lounge! I hope this means that sometime soon we'll find more spots for trendy garment fabrics. Happy New Year Gina!

So very cool!! Thanks so much for sharing. My Mother is a Bernina teacher and says her classes are PACKED...now I believe her. :)

Well although neither of my daughters are interested at least one of Meg's friends recently bought a midrange machine and often calls for help. She does a mix of simple garments and quilts so far.

Just dropping you a note to compliment you on your blog! Being a sewing enthusiast myself, I appreciate the opportunity to learn from and share information with other sewers. I would like to send you a free pattern from my pattern store, www.sewinggarden.com. If you're interested please email me at:

best regards,
