Anne Sutton of BunnyHill Designs mentioned a quilt on her blog today—one, which I have fond memories of…. The pattern is “French Roses” by Heather French. This fun soft edge appliqué was a blast to make. I made several samples a couple of years ago and ended up teaching it as a class over 35 times! And I created hundreds of quilt kits of it as well. I think the quilt shop I worked for sold over 500 patterns in less than one year!
The crazy thing is, in all of those over 250 student quilts, not one was a “dud”. That pattern looks great in any fabric-really.
My students made it in soft romantic florals, civil war reproduction, 1930’s, scrappy, Americana, homespun, black and white, and more…I’d say that I have seen it made out of about every “flavor” of fabric and seriously they all looked great.
If you get a chance to make it, do. It is one of those instant gratification quilts that is a “fer sure” crowd pleaser.
According to Anne, this spectacular “French Roses” quilt, made by “The Quilter’s Inn” in Danville, CA and was one of the quilts they submitted for the Quilt Pink Auction. It was also selected to be featured in a very special book by Better Homes and Gardens/American Patchwork and Quilting. Only 10 quilts were selected from the thousands that were donated! It's beautiful! The pattern they selected was based on the French Roses pattern by Heather French, who is herself a breast cancer survivor.
This quilt is special to me, because I got a chance to meet, teach and have fun with a bunch of “French Rose” girls. So, glad this pattern will be seen by more in the book.
Thanks for the heads up, Anne.
PS The next Quilt Pink Campaign for Breast Cancer will start Sept. 21.

French Roses is still a Cozy Cottage favorite and bestseller. I never cease to be amazed at all of the beautiful color combinations.
The Quilter's Inn version is beautiful!

Looks lovely. I can't seem to find the pattern, however. Any suggestions?
