Having just returned to market, I have a thousand things to write about...It is so
exciting--new fabrics, new designers, cool gadgets and patterns and yes, I did find the "wizard" in the land of Oz.
I got a chance to meet a bunch of cool bloggers and reconnected with Quilt Market buddies... so, here goes...
"My Quilt Market Diary-Post 1" from Houston 2007.
The good thing is...I have a new camera (upon the recommendation of The Photo Man) that takes great
photos as well as video, so I am going to try and write about and "show you" in a few bits of video--as much as I can as fast as I can!--
I will be posting my videos here on QuiltersBuzz and on You-Tube--with a bit of help from my hubby.
This first Market post is especially for my mom, who has been a Mary Engelbreit fan for a million years. She owns every "Home Companion" magazine made and has her librarian office decortated "all-Mary-all-the-time".
So, I was excited to hear about Mary's line of fabric with Moda and attendees at market were excited as well. The colorways of the line were a "softer" side (see fabrics in the background of the photos with Mary) to Mary's traditional "primary-colored and black and white" themes.
I think the line, "Friends and Flowers" will have a broad appeal to "die-hard" Mary fans as well as a younger "fresher" crowd.![]()
And speaking of crowds, Mary can still pull in a crowd...she did a bit of autograph signing of hot pads at the show, and there was always a line. (Here is Mary with fan and designer, Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs.)
I did find out, however, that Mary does not even sew! But, she is thinking about taking it up. We did a phone number/email exchange and I expect Mary will be guest writing in the next little bit.
I picked up a fat quarter bundle and a jelly roll at the show (I got it at sample spree and I was lucky to survive--see photo below with my stash!) The fabric was a hit with the girls at my shop--and I talked with many quilt shop owners who have bought the entire line for their shops.![]()
Look for fabrics to hit your local shop in the next few months.
(Photos thanks to my great new cool camera, and The Photo Man, Gregory Case.)

What kind of excuse can I come up with to talk my family into letting me leave to go to Market? I have no real reason other than fabric obsession.
