Pretty nasty stuff for a wimpy
We made it a quickie trip (2000 miles with 6 people jammed in a mini-van with Christmas presents, snow coats and boots, luggage and snowboard equipment) visiting grandparents and great grandparents, family, cousins and friends. We played lots of cards and games. Ate and ate and ate.
And yup, Santa found us on a fresh white snowy Christmas morning.![]()
It was wonderful to spend even a short time with family so far away.
present) I am so excited to get it--it is quite an upgrade from my hubby’s 7-year old hand-me-down computer, which first went to my daughter-then finally landed in my lap two years ago. It had a 5-minute battery life and no wireless hookup. (I love that Santa shops at Costco and I love my new HP!)
I frequently get bumped off the family computer for things like homework (if you can believe that!), and have a half of my photos and interviews on two different computers at work.

I used to shop at Pine Needles years ago when it was a 1000 square-foot stitchery shop only. They have now doubled in size are now a full-on quilt shop with embroidery and cross stitch as well.
The shop is a delight with attractive collections and clever quilt displays. They have quite a knack for combining both stitchery and quilting to make some amazing projects.
And they have some of the coolest threads, felted wool, buttons and embellishments around.
![]()
Pine Needles had a little display corner set up just for Threaded Pear Patterns, and they did not even know I was coming to visit! It truly was a thrill.
We are currently working of several new quilt patterns and apron patterns for spring.
But now, I have to ask...
Share with Quilter’s Buzz your New Year's Resolution. And I will select 10 winners from the comments. Winners will receive a package of 5 of our newest Threaded Pear Quilt Patterns. Please make comments by Jan. 2 at
P.S. Are any of you becoming a "Guitar Hero" on the Wii...? It is quite a fun thing to do!

My resolution for 2008, is to eat better, to move my body a little more, to keep the house a bit more tidy, and to spend more time quilting than reading about quilting! :)

my resolution is to make more time for my hobbies (like quilting) and to not be so hard on myself--recognizing that there are some things i cannot control and i shouldn't worry about those things but focus more on all the joy in life. looking forward to a great 2008!

My friend's kids got a Wii and we were working on our bowling! It was fun. She's looking forward to a new Wii workout video coming out in January.
My New Year's resolution - quilting-wise - is to push myself to try new things instead of doing the same old thing. I really want to try my hand at small quilts - 8x10 or postcard size or something near that.

Happy New Year! Sounds like you had a lot of fun on your trip. We got a Wii too. What fun! =) My resolution is to have a *much* healthier year than I had in 2007.

My New Years Resolution is to finish two UFO's for every new quilt started. Hopefully I'll get some of those dang aliens out of my sewing room!:-)

My new years resolution is to live a healthier and greener life. I want to focus on taking more me time and eating right is going to be a high priority. Also I've really been wanting to make some changes around to house to make things a little greener for this world.

Happy New Year 2008! I am redoing my "To Do List 2007" to do in 2008 and getting some of my "old" quilting projects completed. My challenge is to machine quilt them and get them FINISHED! Like everything else I have ever learned to do my machine quilting is getting better with every project. Practice is the key word! I'm actually getting stuff done. LOL

Happy New Year Gina! Stephanie! Everyone!
My resolution is to finish all my BOM's, I got them all organized and I have 11. Sick!!! Plus I signed up for one more this year. I plan to make quilts for charity in 2008. To lose weight, I only need to lose 20, if I would just exercise I will be fine!! Now that I have had my surgery, there is NO excuse now. Hope all you awesome women have a healthy and happy 2008.

Happy Holidays, Gina! Sounds like you had a spectacular Christmas! Congrats on the new laptop!! And yes, Guitar Hero is TOO fun!!!
My New Year's Resolution is to blog more often, so that I can document the everyday, and remember to be thankful each and every day. The second part of my resolution I've already begun - to quilt, sew, cut, piece, applique every day - even for just a few minutes.

and

Happy New Year to everyone!

Hello, I just stumbled over to your blog today while checking out other quilting blogs. I am a knitter and quilter.
My New Year's resolution is to get the fire going again in my marriage. We have been together going on 17 years and the kids are all grown now. I want to get the passion back and rediscover ourselves again.
And to quilt myself a quilt that I keep for myself instead of giving away to a family member.
Posted by: Jolene | December 29, 2007 2:22 PM
Eat healthier, more time for family, work on some of the quilts I really have been wanting to make for a long time.

I resolve to longarm enough that it becomes totally comfortable - and keep up the momentum I have somehow found with finishing UFO's so I have tops to practice on! (and make room for new projects)

Happy new years! How fun that you had a corner set up for the Threaded Pear in that quilt shop. My resolutions for 2008:
1) Organize my studio
2) Walk outside for 30 mins 3-4x week
3) Design and make something that's completely original
4) Enjoy life as it comes! :-)
Cheers!!

This year I want to learn to use a longarm machine, finish my quilt WIPs, create some new ones and make the best garden that I can. I want to get better at hand quilting too.

Hi Gina and thanks for a great blog! I very rarely make New Year's resolutions but I think I can achieve this one, more quilting!! I love your patterns and I think you do a wonderful job of keeping us all up to date on the latest quilting news. Thanks so much!
Have a Happy New Year!

Glad you had a wonderful Christmas. I would love to visit Pine Needles, really like the shop photo you shared. A couple of my New Years resolutions are to get some of my finished quilt tops quilted and to eat better & lose some weight. Happy New Year!

Gina,
My resolutions would be: to finish my king-sized trip around the world which I am hand quilting (someone should have stopped me!)
AND
to use fabric from my stash more regularly- a fabric diet?
Your holiday sounded fun- very memorable! See you soon!

Guitar Hero?... Just call me Slash!
My New Year's Resolution is this...I am going to put together a quilt retreat in the "Don't Quilt Me Inn" in Butte, MT. It houses 12 people so I'll set up meals and cleanup groups so we only have to do one meal each. Since Butte is 200 miles away, I would also like to set up 3 vans/suburbans to transport us so we can ride together. Lastly, I want to have a fun little gift bag exchange. Any suggestions? Yay! this is going to be so fun!

My New Year's resolution is to put "less on my plate" this year and SLOW DOWN. Slow WAY down. Stop making all sorts of deadlines for myself, really enjoy the little things in life, enjoy my family, brush up a bit more on my "domestic goddess" skills, haha, and, of course, take more time for fun quilting instead of quilting projects for everyone else! :)
Happy New Year!

Happy New Year to all!!
My New Year's resolutions are:
- to be more creative daily, which means less time in front of the TV!
- be more organized
- take some classes to learn new quilting techniques
- to grow a bigger garden and share with those less fortunate
- follow up on some of those dreams I keep talking about and not being afraid/ashamed if I fail
- to become more financially secure
- get my boyfriend back in school to get his journeyman plumbing
- continue with my excercising routine and our healthy/organic changes to diet
That's quite a few, it's going to be a busy year. This is the first time I've ever really made resolutions, I guess I've been saving them up!
Posted by: Breanne | December 30, 2007 8:10 AM
This coming year I would like to make many of those kits that I've been collecting so as to appease my husband. I've got some more coming that I ordered during the holiday sales...I'll see if I can sneak them past him. :) BTW, I love the Flirty Skirty Apron. I made 3 of them (2 as gifts & 1 for me). Everyone loved them and now my mom, who doesn't even cook, wants one to wear around the house. :) Thanks for the contest.
Posted by: Lori | December 30, 2007 10:18 AM
Guitar Hero for Xbox, yes! (sorry no Wii) I love to attempt it when my boys will let ol' mom play. :)
2008 Resolutions:
Since I haven't quilted in over 10 years, I'm going to finish up all of the 3/4 done projects I have waiting. One of which is my 13 yr old sons baby blanket, lol.
Health - take better care of myself.
Prepare myself for my daughters high school graduation/leaving for college.
Do more for others (family, community)

Happy New Year!
Hubby and I are making a huge lifestyle change next week -- we are moving from the city to a small town in the country. As I have quit my job, I will have lots of time for quilting. I have several projects lined up and a few to finish from this year. My 2008 quilting resolution is to conquer my fear of machine quilting. I've taken the courses and upgraded my machine, now it's time to practice, practice, practice and "just do it!"
Posted by: Cindy | December 31, 2007 5:06 AM
I already completed half of my first resolution--I cleaned out half my sewing room! And found 6 quilts that only needed binding, AND the binding! I plan to sew at home more (I get to sew in the shop already at least part of the time) and spend less time on the computer.
Posted by: Teri in Indy | December 31, 2007 5:11 AM
This is so much fun to read everyone's resolutions. I must make Yoga or stretching part of my daily activities. I have several WIP that are just calling to me to become "real quilts". I also plan to begin blogging. I've so enjoyed the blogs that others have posted. It's time to share so others can enjoy.
Thanks so much for your fabulous blogs! You add to our quilting experience!

My New Year's Resolution is to,
Try a NEW technique each month to stretch my quilt artist talents.
and a Threaded Pear Quilt Pattern would sure be "fruitful" in kick starting my New Year's Resolution.
Happy New Year

Lots of Wii fun going on here, too! I am also a victim of the hand-me-down laptop. It is about to die, though, so I will be getting a new one VERY soon. (The arrow keys just gave up on me and I have no apostrophe. Amazing how often you actually use those things!)
My only resolution so far is to get some UFOs finished. I may also try to do more charity quilting and use some of the stash...gotta make room for new fabrics - like yours!
Posted by: Sandi | December 31, 2007 7:58 AM
I did a weekly quilt series for 2007 as a new year's resolution, and I plan to resolve to do it again! In addition, I plan to add a monthly 8.5 x 11 "journal quilt" piece to the mix this year. It really helped me get in the sewing room and work on something each week.
Another resolution of mine for 2008 is to not be afraid and enter my quilts into competitions. Here's hoping!
Best of luck in 2008. I love reading this blog.

Hi Gina! Happy New Year! My resolution for 2008 is to have an affair! Yep, a good old fashioned love affair. We will see whether my husband approves of it. You see, I flirted around with my sewing machine in 2007. I took it out occasionaly. I bought it pretty things to sew. I even got into passionate spats with it but these were just quick, meaningless flings. In 2008, I plan to fall in love all over again with my sewing machine. I'm pretty sure my husband won't get too jealous. :)
Posted by: Christie | December 31, 2007 8:44 AM
My resolution this year is to craft and quilt more while cutting down on the time I spend on the computer! I'm on the computer way too much and I've neglect doing other things in my life. Happy New Year to all and may 2008 be healthy for all, too.

Happy New Year Gina !!!
So glad you had a great Christmas with your family. I will look forward to the great things you will be able to do with your new laptop.
My new year's resolution is to look for balance in my life. I work, work , work and forget family.
Here's praying that the Lord helps us all.

I have enjoyed making quilts and crafts from patterns. This year i want to create my own designs.

Guitar Hero on Wii has ruled our Christmas..... Great music!!
Resolutions: As St. Theresa said---do little things with great love. I resolve to take time to do the little things with great love---instead of resenting the things that take me away from my quilting time or things I long to do, I need to take time to enjoy the little things in life that happen between my quiet quilting moments..... Those little things can refresh the spirit too.........
Happy New Year

Rockband mama here!! Tried Guitar hero and never got further than the tutorials, but my kids love it.
My new year resolutions are to live in my means(which probably means allot less fabric purchases), work on being more forgiving and more communicative.
Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year! Glad you had a wonderful holiday season. Mine was great too.
I am not a resolution person but I need to get myself under control so I can do the things I most want to do - like quilting and getting outside. In a nutshell: I will schedule my time to stay on top of my work and job. If I do that then I will have a less stressful time quilting, exercising, and spending time with my family. The weight should come off and I will spend less time on the computer. I will also get myself out of debt by July 2008.
Posted by: Erinn | January 1, 2008 10:26 AM
My resolution is to:
- find some more time for myself to do some quilting!!! I spend so much time doing for everyone else, that time slips by so quickly. I love my family, but I need a little bit of "me" time. Hopefully, I will be able to accomplish a few projects!!
Happy New Year!!!

My new year's "resolution" is really a project: I plan to take a photo a day to put in some type of album or project. I take photos constantly, but I will take one each day specifically for this "photo a day."
Posted by: Leah | January 1, 2008 6:17 PM
My resolution is to slow down and take more time to enjoy my kids, they are 4 and 2 and the time is just slipping away. My son will start kindergarten in the fall so this is a precious time to still have with him. I want to take bike rides to the library, read stories together and just find more time to 'be' with them while I can! I have lots of quilts and projects that I would love to accomplish too, but I want to put my kids first! : )

Happy 2008! My new years resolution is this: 10 sit ups a day. I like to have achievable resolutions, and I figure it's quick and better than nothing!
Posted by: Lynn | January 2, 2008 8:55 AM
Hi Gina,
My resolution this year is to enjoy my family more and "do" less. I don't want to be so busy that I miss out on life. That will mean start smaller projects and get rid of extra stuff hanging around so we can simplify our home and our schedule. 2007 went by WAY too fast! I want 2008 to be a year full of good memories!
Posted by: Angela | January 2, 2008 1:05 PM
My resolution is to continue with last years' resolution by living a healthy lifestyle, add excercise/healthy eating.....but am now adding some strength training. I have an additional resolution to spend more time sewing. Stop reading so many craft blogs but get inspired to sew more!
Posted by: Giabella Designs | January 2, 2008 2:32 PM
Happy New Year! I'm looking forward to 2008 and hope you are too.
My resolution is to be more tidy. Not superfreak tidy, just less clutter. I don't consider myself a slob, but there is definitely room for improvement. :)
Posted by: Kari | January 2, 2008 3:25 PM
New Year's resolutions!!
I think the most valuable resolution would be:
to enjoy living,
but, like many, I resolve to . . . .
Quilt and bind the tops sitting in the trunk waiting so the kids will quit asking when it will be their top's turn.
An extra bag of clutter to the trash weekly.
Love my husband and recognize his efforts.
More persistence in housekeeping.
Appreciate my life or change it so I can.
Posted by: Sharon | January 2, 2008 10:23 PM
Aaaah no! My computer has been down and I just was able to get back on today. CAn we pretend it's still the second?
My new years resolution is to finish two quilts that I started this year and to make at least one for charity, hopefully two.
Posted by: Shelley | January 3, 2008 5:12 PM
I LOVE Pine Needles too! Isn't that just the best store? Reading this reminded me I need to plan a trip up soon. Happy New Year!
