Inspired By An Oprah Episode, A Reader Decides To Make A Difference, Sewing and Selling Dolls For A Charity

I am always amazed at how loving and giving quilters and crafters are.  Especially, during the holiday season…rosalind%20dolls.jpg

Rosalind, a regular reader from Sydney, Australia, was touched recently by an episode on Oprah and decided to use her sewing skills to make dolls to sell so she could donate funds to a charity.

Rosalind had originally made a post on her blog about a doll garland she had made, she received such positive comments, that she decided to make them to sell and she currently has an auction going on ebay --then she will be donating her proceeds.

Here is Rosalind to tell you a bit more about her cause and the doll auction on her blog.

Hi Gina,

I am an American (from Sacramento, CA) who came down under seven years ago.  Fell in love with a New Zealander here and have been living in Sydney ever since.  I have always loved to sew and craft. rosalind%20garland.jpg

My daughter got really ill when she was 11 months old and we had to whisk her off to a day at the emergency room where she received top rate care and monitoring for the whole day.  She was fine in the end and we had a happy ending.

One of those days she was sick, I saw an episode of Oprah with Anderson Cooper.  The episode detailed some of Anderson’s favourite stories and his was a story about southern Niger where Doctors Without Borders was helping some very sick and ravaged kids.

http://www.oprah.com/tows/slide/200601/20060131/slide_20060131_284_108.jhtml  is the original story on Oprah.

After the story aired I looked at the chubby thighs of our little lady and just felt so lucky.  We have access to health care, food, water……we are blessed.

Unfortunately I have no skills in the medical profession to help less fortunate, but I can sew!

I posted about a similar doll garland and received so many positive comments I thought I could raise some money and donate it to the charity as a way of helping out.

All details of the auction and dolls are on my website:  http://sewsydney.wordpress.com

I have enclosed a photo above of the garland.

Thanks again and I would appreciate any help in promoting the auction.  Right now they are at a bargain $15.50 Australian which is around $12.00 USD.

 Many thanks,

Rosalind

Thanks for thinking of others, Rosalind. If you would like to donate to Rosalind’s cause, or buy a doll garland (maybe it could be that handmade gift for someone special) check out her site.
