Feb29
Leap Year Day....What Did You Do With Your 24?

You probably already noticed that you picked up an extra day today. It is a leap year and so February 29th shows up on the calendar. Leap Year Day comes once every four years.

How did you spend this extra day? Did you finish that project or start anything new? I found a Quilt for Leap Year.

For those keeping score at home, because the Earth's rotation actually lasts 365 days and six hours, we pick up that extra day every four years. And thus we stay aligned with the Universe.gina Caldwell Halladay BYU 1980.jpg

The last time February 29th occurred on a Friday, it was 1980 and I was a freshman at Brigham Young University.

You should know that I am just drinking punch. The caption proves it. And it is cold-stone sober BYU afterall!

What were you doing in 1980?

The next time February 29th will land on a Friday, it will be 2036. Where will we all be then? How will life have changed? What will you accomplish before then?

I guess perhaps one thing we can count even in the future will be pieces of fabric pieced together over some batting. We had quilts before electricity, indoor plumbing, cars and iPods. My prediction is they will be around in 2036 too. Love lasts.

The outfit cracks me up. It screams 1980.. I love it.

Note the BIG hair. We ALL had hot rollers. And touched up several times a day for extra bigness and fluff! And don't forget that hairspray. I was a former disco queen--what can I say!

who's the hot dude? !980 we were living in Australia. But for this Feb 29th we were in New Zealand, and at a 'end of summer'street fair, where we witnessed a proposal....yes the girl asked the guy on stage.
Cant wait to see the new setup at Cranberry.

Thank you for the "Quilt for Leap Year" connection to "The Curmudgeonly Professor, who happens to be my brother. Inspiration for this quilt came from an old Fons and Porter "Love of Quilting" magazine - I purchased the acrylic templates several years ago, and determined that this would be the year I would raid my batik stash and put one together. Thanks again.

My sisters and I were wonderfully surprised and pleased that you found Liz's quilt and linked the photo on your website. That link has generated more hits than anything else I have yet run in my first 3 months of blogging. If only I knew how to quilt! I have twitted my sisters for years about their obsession for fabric and quilting; now I'm appropriately humbled and am begging for more quilt pics. Thanks again.

P.S. I've done something I never dreamed I'd do; I've linked your great quilting blog on the Curmudgeonly Professor!

Isn't blogging fun? Even a Curmudgeonly Professor has linked! Great things happen on a Leap Year Day. That is a cool quilt Elizabeth and you must have a nice brother.

Crazy--'cause I did not know it, but the above-for-mentioned and "linked-to" Curmudgeonly Professor is a former BYU Professor--don't know if he was teaching when I was there in the early 80's, but...then again, if I had him for an early morning class, I probably did not see him much. Hey, Professor, I am sending you and your sister a few of my quilting patterns. Send me your addresses at my quiltersbuzz@gmail. We may get you hooked on quilting yet...you started it by linking to the QB! I won't leave you alone now!

I almost hate to tell you, but I wasn't born yet on Feb. 29, 1980...so hopefull me and my quilts will still be around on 2/29/2036!

I gave birth to my son on 29th February 1980, he has just celebrated his 7th/28th birthday.

Hey my husband was a student at BYU in 1980! Small world.

You were even a happenin' chick back then, Gina! I don't know, you looked pretty normal to me ; )
Was the guy next to you your date, or family home evening brother?
Thanks for the trip back -- 1980 was the year I got married.

Gina did you say you would be in Oregon this year? If so where?

Did you say that you were going to Oregon this year? if so where and when.

Hi Gina! You’ve been “tagged”! It’s fun! But if you don’t want to play, that’s ok! 1. Link to the tagger! (That would be me!) 2. Share 7 random or wierd facts about yourself on your blog. 3. Tag 7 people, post their names and links to their blogs on your blog. 4. Tell the 7 people you tagged by posting “Tag you’re it” on their blogs in their comments box and explain the “rules” to them. Nobody’s obligated! Just have fun!
