A great addition to the lineup of quilt fabric designers is Patty Young, who debuted her line of fabric “Andalucia” for Michael Miller at Quilt Market.

 It is bright, fresh, and fun.  Not only were there several quilts on display, but clothing, pillows, furniture, even ribbon made from her designs…  “Andalucia” is a great fabric collection—look for it to hit shops in January.

I asked Patty to guest write and tell us more!

 It's such an honor to do this interview... thanks so much to Gina Halladay for contacting me about it.

A little bit about myself:

I grew up in a small town on the outskirts of San Jose, Costa Rica. My dad is an architect and my mom is a school teacher and crafter extraordinaire, so it was only natural that I would inherit their creative genes.

 I grew up surrounded by all sorts of wonderful artsy-crafty projects... from my dad's drawings to my mom's sewing & knitting projects. From an early age I was doodling on every surface I could find, which got me into trouble quite often.

We moved to the States when I was 16 years old and my parents supported me fully when I announced that I wanted to go to college for Art. I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Central Florida in 1993 and have been working as a graphic designer professionally for the past 15 years.

Andalucia was inspired by our honeymoon in the South of Spain.

I was so taken by the vibrant colors, rich textures and flavorful food we encountered while visiting these quaint towns, that I had no doubt in my mind where I wanted to draw inspiration from.

The collection is as varied in colors as it is in styles and I created it with both quilters and apparel designers in mind. All 24 designs mix & match beautifully!
