Rocking the Vote, One Stitch At A Time!![]()
I write this post to show that quilters are out there trying to make a difference--in whatever way they choose to make a difference.
See Denyse Schmidt’s “Yes, We Can” Quilt!
Here is a message from Denyse and who she supports:
Denyse Schmidt and friends have created a quilt inspired by Barack Obama's message of hope and change. Long before women had the vote, they voiced their opinions by creating quilts with political and commemorative themes.
You can win this heirloom quilt! By clicking here and making a donation to
the campaign, you'll automatically be enrolled in
a drawing. Spread the word – and thanks for your support!

You have lost one reader. I come to quilting blogs to get away from Politics.
I also will not be buying Moda fabric since they condone this endorsement.

I think this was a great column..
Woman quilters go back in history even before they had the right to vote, and could express their convictions in their quilting.
awesome.. keep up the good work!

This post is about "quilters making a difference" with skills, passions and fabric! And doing whatever they want to do to make a difference.

ugh, I was a big fan of this blog. Why did you have to go there?

What is going on here????? I am so disappointed in this obvious endorsement of Barack Obama. It was not about "women making a difference". It is a shameless way to get donations for his campaign by raffling off this less than creative quilt. This blog just dropped a notch (or twelve) on the Quilter's Rictor Scale.

so sorry to see this blog go political.

Yes, women quilters do go way-y-y-y back. I've always been fascinated by the "hidden messages" in quilts during the Civil War that were intended for slaves working their way North. Quilts of the pioneers are wonderful, too. BUT...this post was all about politics, and raising money for Obama. You said it in your post....donate money and "help us all win". It should not have been posted, in my opinion. Bad decision.

Interesting......
I have been following this post to see what quilters thought of this political endorsement, and today the wording on this post has been changed. Sorry, but to me this is misleading.

hmmm.. I haven't seen a quilt inspired by McCain?? isn't that saying something..
I'm impressed that Denyse took the time out of her busy schedule to make a quilt to show support for her pick.
What about Freedom of Speech?

If I make a Obama protest quilt, complete with radical ties, can I raffle it on your site (in the name of women making a difference and free speech)?
Somehow I doubt it. Since you obviously had no desire for equal treatment of your market, I will vote with my $$ elsewhere.

I am not raffling the quilt on my site, merely writing about a quilter who is trying to make a difference for her own cause, whatever that may be.
